These terms apply when you use Readwalk, the iPhone app that reads text aloud, and its related services ("Readwalk", "we", "us"). Readwalk is made by Trevor Richardson. By downloading or using Readwalk, you agree to these terms.
Apple's terms apply too
Readwalk is licensed to you under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"). These terms add to the Apple EULA. If they conflict, the Apple EULA wins. Apple isn't responsible for Readwalk or for supporting it; we are.
What Readwalk does
Readwalk reads text you add to it aloud: pasted text, links, files, scanned pages and text shared from other apps.
- Standard voices are generated on your iPhone. They're included with every plan, with no hourly limit.
- Studio voices are generated on our servers and our voice provider's servers, so they need an internet connection. Readwalk Studio includes 10 hours of Studio listening each calendar month. Unused hours don't carry over to the next month. When your hours run out, Readwalk keeps reading with the Standard voices.
- Extra Studio hours bought in the app don't expire.
- Text recognition (for scans) and web page extraction are automatic and can make mistakes.
We may improve, change or remove features over time. If we reduce what a paid plan includes, we'll tell you in the app before your next renewal.
Subscriptions, trials and payment
- Readwalk is offered as auto-renewing subscriptions (Readwalk and Readwalk Studio, monthly or yearly). Current prices are shown in the app before you buy, and on our pricing page.
- Payment is handled by Apple. It's charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials: yearly plans may include a 7-day free trial with 1 hour of Studio listening. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you're charged. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Cancel anytime in iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Readwalk. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If we change a price, Apple notifies you as required and the new price applies from your next renewal.
Your content
- What you add to Readwalk stays yours. You're responsible for having the right to use it, for example that you own it, it's licensed to you, or your use is otherwise allowed by law.
- Audio Readwalk creates is for your personal, non-commercial listening. Don't publish, sell or redistribute it.
- To create Studio audio, the text being read is sent to our servers and our voice provider. How we handle it is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Using your own API key
If you add your own ElevenLabs or Cartesia API key, Readwalk sends text directly from your iPhone to that provider using your key. Your use of that service, and any charges it makes, are between you and that provider under its terms.
Fair use
Please don't:
- Try to get around plan limits, the free-sample limit or any security measure.
- Copy, reverse-engineer or resell Readwalk or its voices, or access our servers other than through the app.
- Use Readwalk to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights.
- Overload or interfere with the service, including by automated use.
We may suspend Studio voices or other server features for accounts that break these terms.
Accessibility and health
Readwalk can help people who find reading difficult, including people with dyslexia, ADHD or low vision, but it isn't a medical device or a treatment, and it isn't a substitute for professional advice or for accommodations you're entitled to. Please stay aware of your surroundings when listening while walking, driving or cycling.
Disclaimers
Readwalk is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, or that every word will be read or recognized correctly.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of Readwalk. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Readwalk in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If you live outside the United States, this doesn't take away protections you have under the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app. If you keep using Readwalk after an update, the updated terms apply.
