Listen to articles instead of reading them

Paste a link or share from Safari, then hear the article in a voice that sounds like a person, with your phone in your pocket.

Download on the App Store

To listen to an article on iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, and choose Readwalk. Readwalk pulls out the article's text, leaves behind the menus and footers, and starts reading in a natural voice. You can also paste a link into the box at the bottom of your library.

Your read-later list, finally read

Most saved articles never get opened again. Not because they're boring, but because reading needs a free half hour and your full attention, and those are rare. Listening needs neither. A 2,000-word article is about 13 minutes of audio at normal speed, which is one walk to the shops.

How it works

  1. Find an article in Safari, a news app, a newsletter in Mail, or anywhere with a Share button.
  2. Tap Share › Readwalk, or copy the link and paste it into Readwalk.
  3. Press play. Each word is highlighted as it's read, so you can glance at the screen if you lose the thread.
  4. Lock your phone. Reading continues in your pocket, with play, pause and skip on the lock screen and your headphones. When one article ends, the next one in your library starts.

Voices that don't sound like a robot

The voice is what decides whether you'll listen for 30 seconds or 30 minutes. Readwalk's Standard voices are generated right on your iPhone: unlimited, and they work offline once downloaded. Readwalk Studio adds our most lifelike Studio voices for the long reads you care about most. You can hear four of them on the home page.

Speed it up when you're ready

Start at normal speed. Most people move to 1.25× or 1.5× within a week, and Readwalk goes from 0.75× all the way to 3×.

Frequently asked questions

Does Readwalk work with paywalled articles?

Readwalk reads what your iPhone can see. If an article sits behind a login, copy its text and paste it into Readwalk, or share the page from the app where you're signed in.

Can it read newsletters and emails?

Yes. Copy the email's text and paste it, or say "Read Clipboard" to Siri after copying, and Readwalk reads it.

Does it read the headline twice, or the menus?

No. Readwalk keeps the headline, headings, paragraphs and lists, and skips navigation, scripts and footers.

Press play, and take it for a walk.
